Md. Aminul Ehsan
Md. Aminul Ehsan is the Chief of Party for the Bangladesh Strengthening Accountability for Citizen Empowerment (B-SPACE) program. He is a senior democracy, governance, and political reform practitioner with more than 26 years of experience supporting democratic values, political institutions, and policy reform in Bangladesh.
Ehsan’s work focuses on democracy promotion in practice, engaging political party leaders, Members of Parliament, and women and youth leaders to strengthen democratic norms, internal party processes, and reform minded political leadership. He is widely recognized for his expertise in political party strengthening, parliamentary programming, and citizen-oriented governance, with a strong understanding of how political incentives shape reform outcomes.
He brings deep, field-based knowledge of Bangladesh’s political landscape and has consistently applied Thinking and Working Politically and Political Economy Analysis to design and adapt programs in politically sensitive environments. His work has supported political actors to become more programmatic and inclusive, contributed to stronger parliamentary roles in representation and oversight, and enabled reform to advance policy change.
Across leadership roles at Democracy International, International Republican Institute, Democracywatch, and Rupantar, Ehsan has directed USAID, FCDO, UKAID, and State Department funded initiatives focused on democratic governance, civic engagement, anti-corruption, and institutional reform. His programs have increased meaningful participation of youth and women and strengthened dialogue between political institutions and citizens.
Beyond program leadership, Ehsan has contributed to global democracy and policy thinking as a member of the Advisory Board of a State Department funded initiative at George Mason University Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution, supporting the development of the Integrative Contact Theory. Known for strategic judgment, adaptive leadership, and mentorship, he brings trusted relationships across political and civic actors to advance democratic reform agendas.
