Katie Calhoun

Program Officer I

Katie Calhoun is a Program Officer at Democracy International (DI) on the Global Security and Field Operations Team supporting all DI’s projects with security and operational needs. Over her tenure with DI, Ms. Calhoun has also served on the Program Management Team, supporting projects in Africa and the Caribbean, and as an Administration and Operations Officer where she led staff development and supported our media and communications department. Prior to moving into international development, Ms. Calhoun worked in retail and customer service, as a freelance photography trainer, and as a substitute teacher for grades K-12 in California.

Her interests include human rights, mass atrocity prevention, and migration. She has shared her research on international sports diplomacy and historical power systems at conferences hosted by the Center for Sociocultural Sport and Olympic Research and the American Historical Association Pacific Coast Branch respectively.

Ms. Calhoun holds a Master of Arts in International Affairs from American University’s School of International Service and a Bachelor of Arts in History from California State University, Fullerton. She also studied film and video production at Orange Coast College and the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles. Additionally, she holds a 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit and has passed the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBET). Ms. Calhoun speaks intermediate French.
