With funding from USAID under the Elections and Political Processes IQC in 2009, Democracy International supported the Albanian Central Elections Commission (CEC) with the National Assembly elections held on June 28, 2009. The project provided support to the CEC to support the quality and integrity of the electoral process through technical assistance in three key areas: training, public outreach and results transmission and monitoring.
DI’s team identified a number of significant challenges facing the CEC as it prepared for the elections, but the election administration overcame many of these challenges and delivered a credible election that included some major innovations in election practice. DI’s recommendations primarily focus on the internal management and procedures of the election administration.
