Project Description

In 2016, Democracy International conducted an assessment of community justice in Mexico for USAID. The assessment team conducted interviews with a wide range of stakeholders from state and local government, local NGOs, judges and state courts, academia, and USAID implementing partners. The assessment examined the main lines of support for community justice from state and national government bodies, identified gaps and/or shortcomings in community justice policy and practice, and described the nature and role of community justice—including gender implications—in selected states and municipalities. The results of this assessment identified priority areas to inform future USAID interventions and prioritized recommendations for programming.
