Irene Méndez
Irene Méndez is a Program Assistant at Democracy International where she works to support programming in South Sudan. Prior to DI, Ms. Méndez was an administrative assistant for the World Service Authority where she prepared identity documents for refugees. Previously, she interned with the Consulate General of Spain in Miami, Florida and worked as an interpreter and translator for the Organization of Women of the Americas at the Organization of American States. She assisted with the international development project “All-Nighter for Haiti” in conjunction with Food for the Poor Inc. and the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund. As a Project Manager with All-Nighter for Haiti she organized a one-year fundraiser, raising almost $25,000 for training, technology, and resources, along with funds to support five sustainable fish ponds, for farmers in Delogner, Haiti. Ms. Méndez received a BA in International Studies from the School of International Service at American University with a specialization in International Development and the Americas. She is a native Spanish speaker, and is proficient in French.
