Project Description

In 2008 Democracy International conducted a Democracy and Governance assessment in Zimbabwe using USAID’s Democracy and Governance Assessment Framework. The team met with political and opinion leaders in Harare and elsewhere in the country. The assessment found that the erosion of the rule of law and the absence of accountable governance were impediments to democracy and effective governance in Zimbabwe. Accordingly, the team recommended greater emphasis on restoring the rule of law and promoting accountable governance by combating corruption and building an independent civil society.
