Project Description

The Parliamentary Support Activity, funded by USAID and implemented by DI, works to move Malawi’s democracy forward through locally led activities by supporting the effectiveness and independence of the Malawian Parliament. To achieve this, DI and its partners will provide technical support to selected committees and caucuses; provide cross-institutional coordination between parliament and statutory oversight institutions; and facilitate collaboration between Parliament, civil society organizations, and the media on legislative and oversight matters in the public interest. To ensure long-term sustainability, the Activity will prioritize Malawian voices and reinforce local ownership by having local partners take the lead in program direction and activity implementation. The Activity will also integrate social and behavioral science (SBS) research and insights to identify key behaviors and psychological, social, and situational barriers that prevent stakeholders from leading reform.
