Project Description

Democracy International’s Obirodh – Road to Tolerance project, implemented in partnership with Management Systems International (MSI) and with funding from USAID/Bangladesh, is designed to counter the growing threat of violent extremism (VE) in Bangladesh. As MSI’s monitoring, evaluation, and research partner, we are identifying the drivers and pathways of radicalization, discovering which demographics and populations are most vulnerable to VE, and providing insight on the role of women in VE dynamics. DI is conducting research and supporting activities that broaden understanding of VE grievances and narratives through action-oriented learning, community and family outreach, and research partnerships with think tanks, universities, and civil society organizations. By testing piloted VE interventions using rigorous, evidence-based monitoring and evaluation metrics, DI will provide USAID and its implementing partners with data and effective programming recommendations for countering violent extremism (CVE) in Bangladesh.
