Project Description

Democracy International conducted a comprehensive, USAID-funded international election observation mission to observe the 2014 presidential elections and assess the political environment in Afghanistan. DI’s core team and long-term international observers conducted a pre-election analysis and deployed to polling stations on election day for both the initial round of presidential elections in April and the June runoff. DI then led the international observation of the process to audit the electoral results, a several weeks-long process in which officials of Afghanistan’s Independent Election Commission investigated the validity of each of the nearly 23,000 ballot boxes from the runoff election in June.
