Project Description

Democracy International conducted a governance assessment and produced a new program design and strategy for USAID/Afghanistan in 2012. DI assessed the effectiveness, achievements, and sustainability of USAID governance programs and developed a long-term strategy for governance programming, including recommendations for a follow-on program that encompassed strategic points of the existing governance portfolio, along with Mission priorities. The strategy included a focus on building linkages between the subnational and national levels, increasing the accountability and responsiveness of provincial and district-level institutions, improving the effectiveness of administrative systems and the delivery of public services, and expanding opportunities for women to participate in and benefit from government institutions.
